Become an Eryri National Park Ambassador

13 Modules

The Eryri Ambassador programme is an initiative designed to deepen understanding and appreciation of Eryri National Park’s unique features and the reasons behind its designation, collectively known as its Special Qualities. Originally developed for the local tourism industry, the programme now offers high-quality online training for anyone eager to learn more about what makes Eryri exceptional—from its historic landscapes to the richness and vibrancy of the Welsh language.

Background

The programme is part of the Wales Ambassador Scheme, a collaborative initiative led by the Eryri National Park Authority in partnership with multiple local authorities, including Denbighshire Council, Conwy County Borough Council, Flintshire Council, Cyngor Gwynedd, Cyngor Ceredigion, Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, and Carmarthenshire Council, with administration overseen by Denbighshire Council. While each authority runs its own ambassador initiatives, the schemes are co-promoted to reach the widest possible audience.

Learning experience

The Llysgennad Eryri Ambassador programme offers 13 core online training modules. Twelve of these focus on the Park’s Special Qualities, while the 13th is dedicated to reducing single-use plastics and promoting plastic-free practices in hospitality.

Additional bonus modules include Introduction to Sustainable Tourism and AdventureSmart, with the latter providing guidance on staying safe while enjoying the outdoors. The modules offer a rich mix of content—from original creative works to factual information—much of which has been contributed by local experts from across the region.

Purpose and Impact

The programme encourages the sharing of knowledge, fostering a fuller understanding of the entire area. Participants gain insights that can be applied in tourism, education, and community engagement, helping to celebrate and protect the unique character of Eryri National Park.

How it works?

1 Create an account
Participants start by creating an online account to access the training modules.

2 Complete the three compulsory modules
Everyone begins with the three core modules:

  • Welcome to the Eryri National Park Authority
  • Yr Wyddfa
  • Sustainable Tourism

Completing these earns participants Bronze Eryri Ambassador status, which includes:

  • A digital certificate and email signature
  • A Bronze Eryri Ambassador pin badge
  • A Bronze Eryri Ambassador window sticker

Achieving bronze unlocks access to the remaining modules.

3 Progress to silver and gold

  • Silver Eryri Ambassador: Complete any three additional modules after bronze. Rewards include a digital certificate and email signature, Silver Eryri Ambassador pin badge, and window sticker.
  • Gold Eryri Ambassador: Complete a further three modules after silver. Rewards include a digital certificate and email signature, Gold Eryri Ambassador pin badge, window sticker, a physical copy of the certificate, and a special prize such as an Eryri Ambassador-branded buff, water bottle, or cap.

4 Bonus modules
The new bonus modules were funded by Cyngor Gwynedd and are open to all Gwynedd and Eryri Ambassadors without needing to unlock any other modules.

5 Annual refresher
To maintain Gold Ambassador status, participants must complete an annual refresher module. Bronze, silver and gold statuses are dated, so failing to renew results in losing the status. This annual review ensures all ambassadors’ knowledge stays current, accurate, and relevant.

TIP: Please complete the modules in the language that you started using. We cannot guarantee to keep your score if you change languages.
